SALT LAKE CITY, UT— High-speed Internet access provider STSN Inc. has thus far completed the installation of iBAHN wireless Internet hotspots at 370 hotel properties, ahead of its original schedule unveiled last December. According to STSN’s aggressive installation plan, the company is delivering dual band 802.11a and 802.11b high-speed Internet access technology to common areas and conference/meeting rooms in its partner hotels. The massive effort is financed in part by an investment from the Intel Communications Fund. One of the first properties to benefit from the STSN iBAHN wireless deployment is the Santa Clara Marriott. Soon after the installation of the iBAHN wireless service, the hotel hosted a conference on XML/Web Services that supported 85 wireless users spread throughout eight different meeting areas of the hotel. This conference was the first of many new revenue-generating opportunities for the Santa Clara Marriott, according to Jim Chamberlain, director of A/V services for the Santa Clara Marriott, who said that the STSN iBAHN wireless service provided office-like speeds and secure connections to the hotel’s conference attendees’ corporate VPNs. The iBAHN wireless solution has been tested with Intel’s new Centrino mobile technology. This testing was undertaken as part of Intel’s Wireless Verification Program, which includes engineering and testing of Intel Centrino mobile technology with various WLAN access point devices, software combinations, hot spot locations and wireless service providers — to maximize compatibility and verify interoperability, further enhancing the end user’s wireless experience.
