ATLANTA— Stormont Hospitality Group is moving ahead with the development of its Suffolk, VA Hilton Garden Inn. The company recently selected Winter Construction Company, based here, as the general contractor for the hotel and conference center project, scheduled to open in spring of 2004. The 150-room full-service Hilton Garden Inn and adjacent City conference facility are integral parts of the Downtown Suffolk Initiatives Plan developed as a component of the City’s 2018 Comprehensive Plan. The public-private hotel venture will be the centerpiece of a key City-owned redevelopment site along the Nansemond River, which will also include a public park, waterfront promenade, marina, parking and pedestrian access to a waterfront restaurant site. The hotel will be owned by a partnership between Stormont Hospitality Group of Atlanta and The Procaccianti Group of Cranston, Rhode Island. Procaccianti will also manage the properties.
