ST. THOMAS, USVI— As part of an extensive renovation and expansion project at The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas which began in the spring of 2000, 48 additional guestrooms and suites and a personal concierge level will be completed in mid-November, according to the property. A new boutique spa, salon and fitness center are scheduled to open in mid-December. An additional restaurant, pool and beach were completed in August. The new guestrooms will be included in two peach-stucco villas on the resorts new Coconut Cove beach and aims to recreate the feel and design of the Mediterranean-inspired resort. The villas will house 24 new suites, 24 new guestrooms and a key-activated Club Lounge, all with private balconies and views of Great Bay and St. John. The new spa, which will have six treatment rooms, will feature traditional spa treatments and signature services that draw from essential ingredients found in the surrounding flora, fauna and Caribbean Sea. In The Fitness Center, a wide variety of cardiovascular and weight-training equipment will be offered in a separate workout studio with ocean views. The first building of the resorts new luxury club residences – The Ritz-Carlton Club, opened in June 2002.The second of four buildings will be completed in December. A total of 80 two-and-three bedroom residences will be built in four separate villas in a Mediterranean design. As part of the renovation project, the original 152-existing guestrooms and suites have been renovated with new furniture, carpeting, draperies and bed linens. Light colors and tropical designs characterize the new Caribbean-inspired décor. New air-conditioning and plumbing systems have also been installed in all accommodations. Additionally, all public areas and dining outlets have been refreshed and enhanced. All together, The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas will feature a total of 200 guestrooms and suites with the completion of the expansion in November 2002.
