LONDON— St. Regis Hotels & Resorts is taking over management of The Lanesborough here from Rosewood on May 29. As previously reported, Rosewood has managed the property since its opening in 1992 under a 10-year operating agreement that expires this month. Atef Mankarios, who now heads up operations at Starwoods St. Regis brand as president, oversaw construction of Londons Lanesborough hotel while he was chief executive of Dallas Rosewood Hotels. With just 95 rooms, The Lanesborough was developed in a 17th century building overlooking Hyde Park. After the expiraton of Rosewoods management contract, the hotels U.K. owner, Lanesborough Management Ltd., said it would bring in Mankarios and his staff at St. Regis to manage the five-star hotel. “When the current contract [with Rosewood]approached expiration, they took proposals from a number of firms,” Mankarios said. “We were lucky enough to get the contract…And Im sure it is due in no small part to our experience with The Lanesborough,” he said. St. Regis now operates 10 hotels and resorts worldwide.
