LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA—St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, part of Starwood Hotels & Resorts, Inc., has opened The St. Regis Langkawi here. Owned by Integrated Nautical Resort Sdn Bhd, the resort is a joint venture between Rajawali Group and Malaysia’s Ministry of Finance.
The opening marks the brand’s debut in Malaysia and following the opening of The St. Regis Dubai, the brand plans to continue its growth with openings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; the Maldives; Changsha, China; and Cairo, Egypt.
“The St. Regis brand remains laser-focused on increasing its presence in destinations where travelers from around the globe are seeking bespoke guest experiences, and we are thrilled to expand our portfolio in Southeast Asia with an extraordinary brand debut in Malaysia—one of the most dynamic countries in the world,” said Jim Petrus, global brand leader, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts. “The St. Regis Langkawi is set to redefine luxury hospitality on the island, from the resort’s lush, secluded location, to the iconic St. Regis Butler Service which provides guests with beyond expectation experiences.”
Located in the Langkawi archipelago, the all-suite luxury resort is fringed by a beach overlooking a lagoon, which integrates with the Andaman Sea. The hotel is accessible to the Langkawi International Airport.
With interiors designed by G.A Design and architecture by architecture firm Gensler, the hotel channels a classical contemporary aesthetic, according to the company. The resort’s mansion house features European and Middle Eastern influences with a color scheme of blue and beige. Other design elements include Islamic arches, mashrabiya-inspired screening and large private courtyards. The property offers four private villas and 85 suites. Each suite provides views of the sea from terraces.
“The St. Regis Langkawi will be the first luxury resort to open within the last decade in Langkawi and there is an opportunity to further strengthen a market of well-heeled travelers that will appreciate the renowned brand’s tailor-made services and programs. We look forward to a long-term collaboration with Starwood Hotels & Resorts,” said Erhard Hotter, SVP, hotel operations, Rajawali Group.
There are six restaurant and bar venues, including Kayuputi, which serves Asian-inspired cuisine. In addition, the resort also offers French cuisine infused with Asian and Middle Eastern flavors at L’Orangerie. The Gourmand Deli provides a selection of breads and pastries, as well as iced teas infused with local herbs and spices. The St. Regis Bar, Decanter wine bar and Drawing Room round out the offerings.
The hotel provides over 10,000 sq. ft. of private event space, including an outdoor wedding pavilion inspired by Moorish design, a pre-function area and six meeting and event venues.
“The highly anticipated arrival of St. Regis into Malaysia marks another milestone for the luxury brand’s expansion in South East Asia,” said Charlie Dang, regional VP, South East Asia, Starwood Hotels & Resorts. “With Langkawi rapidly emerging as a world-class destination, the opening of The St. Regis Langkawi will enhance the island’s efforts to become an internationally renowned luxury destination for affluent global travelers.”
