BOSTON— Suffolk Special Projects Division (SSPD) has embarked upon a complete revitalization and expansion of the 88 Exeter Street building located in Bostons Back Bay neighborhood. The $9 million project includes the addition of a three-story, 14,000-square-foot addition on top of an existing seven-story, 34,00-square-foot building. The circa 1891 structure is being converted from a multi-family residential facility to a boutique hotel. The buildings existing floors, currently containing 53 units, will be renovated, and a new stairway, two elevators and mechanical and electrical systems will be installed. Exterior restoration work includes re-appointing the buildings masonry, and restoring the curved bay window bays, ornate terra-cotta tile and detailed iron work. The 80-room hotel will feature a concierge area and space for a future lounge with a bar and restaurant grille on the first level. The nine floors above that will contain between eight and 10 guestrooms or suites per floor. The new hotel is being designed to cater to Bostons growing business visitor and tourist population. The owner is Boston Exeter Corp. SSPD is working with John Caitlin & Associates/Architects.
