ATLANTA HOTEL BUSINESS. has learned a slowing economy won t slow efforts behind developing Bass Hotels & Resorts mid-scale products.

With 1,200 Holiday Inn and 1,100 Holiday Inn Express hotels, Brown Kessler, vp/franchise sales, Bass Hotels & Resorts, noted the current economic climate provides the opportunity “to see where real market strength lies.”

“We are not going to slow down our efforts, because we know that there is a delay between projects in planning and the opening of properties. When the properties that are in planning now open we should be well on our way to recovery, even if we do slip into a recession,” he said.

The executive noted the pipelines for both brands are strong, although “we are seeing some slowing in new applications as people weigh the possibility of a recession and the availability of financing.”

Last year, Holiday Inn opened 25 domestic and 44 international hotels. Holiday Inn Express opened 139 domestic and 28 international hotels. (3/29/01) Stefani C. O Connor
