NEW YORK— Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) has named Richard Curtis to the position of vp of marketing for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Curtis brings more than 15 years of international brand and marketing communications experience to Small Luxury Hotels of the World. He previously held international director-level marketing positions for both Hilton and Marriott. In his new position, Curtis will oversee a $4.5 million budget and will initially focus on SLH’s core European markets of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. In addition to growing existing markets, he will work to expand SLH in emerging markets including the Baltic States, selected Arab countries and Russia. SLH has had record levels of bookings in 2004, according to Brian Mills, global spokesman for the group. Bookings are up by more than 10%, and central reservations are forecast to exceed $60 million for the first time this year. The Small Luxury Hotels of the World brand is a collection of over 300 independently owned hotels in more than 50 countries.
