NEW YORK— Six Continents Hotels and Resorts and Australia-based Burswood have entered into a non-binding agreement to form a joint venture to develop a 300-room hotel at the Burswood International Resort Casino complex, and reflag another property at the site. The new 3.5-star hotel— Holiday Inn Burswood— would be adjacent to the Burswood Convention Center, with construction of a 500-car parking lot beneath the hotel. The parties would own and operate both the new hotel and an existing 413-room, five-star hotel that will complete a major renovation next month, and which is expected to be reflagged Hotel Inter-Continental Burswood. Burswood will continue to manage the food, beverage and meeting-room facilities within the existing hotel as well as f&b operations within the new hotel. The proposed $50 million hotel is slated to open December 2002. Tony South, COO for Six Continents Hotels’ Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific, said, “The new hotel development will complement Burswood’s already strong reputation as one of Australia’s premier resort destinations, and the worldwide network of Six Continents Hotels will help to create a much stronger market position for the resort.”
