SAN DIEGO—Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina has broken ground on a massive meeting space expansion that will result in the largest event space on the West Coast.
Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina offers 47 meeting rooms with 80,000 sq. ft. of total event space and will be expanding to nearly 240,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor event venues, scheduled for completion summer of 2016.
In place of the current ballrooms, two stacked 36,000-sq.-ft. ballrooms are being built to overlook the San Diego Bay, each able to accommodate up to 4,500 guests. Inspired by the natural beauty of Southern California, the design will feature sophisticated simplicity with colors that match the allure of sandy beaches and sunsets, according to the hotel. New features include a glass curtain wall that will provide unobstructed views of Downtown San Diego; a one-of-a-kind Swarovski crystal ceiling installation located in the pre-function space; and a video wall system using the latest technology.
The Marina Terrace features 26,450 sq. ft. of paved space overlooking the marina. In its newest addition, the luxury San Diego hotel will be building the Marina Walk, connecting downtown and the San Diego Bay. The landscaped walkway will include bike racks, benches, public art and decorative paving, as well as wheelchair accessibility.
Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina is located at 333 W. Harbor Dr., near the San Diego Convention Center and the Gaslamp Quarter. The hotel has two towers, each with 25 floors, featuring 1,360 guestrooms, the Marina Kitchen restaurant, a fitness center, The Hideaway Spa, two outdoor free-form pools, a whirlpool and a 446-slip marina.
