SALT LAKE CITY The average rate for a hotel room here declined 3.2% to $75.03 in November of last year compared to the same month in 1999, according to a report by San Francisco-based PKF Consulting. Hotel rooms that average less than $60 per night fell by the largest margin, 7.2%, to $49.60. Rooms that cost $60 to $70 per night declined by 2.1% to $66.62, while rooms priced at more than $70 per night fel by 3.1% to $82.01.

Room prices have declined in recent years in the area due to a glut of hotel rooms. However, the average occupancy rate rose in November to 56%, up from 52.8% in November of 1999. (1/17/01)
