MIAMI BEACH, FL— The opening of the 422-key Royal Palm Crowne Plaza Resort here— billed as the country’s first black-owned luxury resort property— has at long last been confirmed for early next month by owner/developer R. Donahue Peebles. As noted by the Peebles Atlantic Development Corps President/CEO, the twin-towered edifice is more akin to “two separate boutique-style hotels, built side-by-side simultaneously.” Commanding a strategic position at the northern terminus of Ocean Drive, the 17-story Shorecrest Tower features 130 interior suites and 35 lanai suites, while the 17-story Royal Palm Tower encompasses a standard mix of 272 rooms. Each also features its own pool, restaurant and check-in/reception area. Total cost of the multi-structured beachfront development amounted to something in excess of $80 million. The official opening is pegged to take place following the property’s final fire and safety inspection.—Michael Billig
