Rotana Hotels Plans Aggressive Expansion

NEW YORK Rotana Hotels of Abu Dhabi, which currently manages 18 hotels in the Middle East, has plans to expand aggressively, with the aim of having a hotel in every major city in the region within the next five years. Furthermore, the 200-room Abu Dhabi Grand Hotel and the 234-room Beach Rotana Hotel are undergoing extensions, with a further 200 rooms due to be added to each hotel by the end of 2002.

According to the company s President/CEO Selim El Zyr, several hotel projects are in the final stages of negotiation and development. A new 300-room hotel, the Al Maha Rotana Suites, is expected to open in Abu Dhabi in 2002. Meanwhile, negotiations are also underway for a resort property on the Jumairah beachfront of Dubai. Within the next five years, Rotana Hotels plans to double its size comprising some 35 luxury hotels. (2/2/01)
