ORLANDO Rosen Hotels & Resorts announced plans to develop a 1,500-room convention hotel and resort here. The company closed on a 230-acre site located on the new Universal Boulevard east of the Orange County Convention Center, phase five. Construction will commence in late 2002 with the hotel opening scheduled for fall 2004.

Harris Rosen, president of Rosen Hotels & Resorts, has committed to an all-cash development which will include the 1,500-room hotel convention facility with 250,000 square feet of meeting space, an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, health spa and other resort amenities.

Rosen has also donated funding to the University of Central Florida for an adjacent 20-acre site which will be the future home of the University of Central Florida s Rosen School of Hospitality management. (5/30/01)
