WASHINGTON HOTEL BUSINESS. has learned that Horst Schulze will step down from his post as president/COO of Ritz-Carlton Hotels in January. Schulze will stay on at the company as vice chairman, a newly created post that will allow him to stay involved by keeping an eye on such things as investor relations. After serving in this capacity for one year, Schulze will decide if he plans to stay on with Ritz-Carlton any further. Meanwhile, Marriott International, parent of Ritz-Carlton, is searching for a successor to Schulze to fill the luxury hotel chains top slot. According to a spokesperson, “an active search is underway to name a successor, which will likely be named in early 2001.” The spokesperson said the new Ritz president will likely be highly qualified with years of industry experience. Schulzes decision to step down as president/COO of Ritz-Carlton was personal, as he plans to spend more time with his family, according to the company. Shannon McMullen (12/27/00)
