CHICAGO— Laurence Geller, CEO of Strategic Hotel Capital, reports that he is embarking on a “major refurbishment” which will turn his property, the Ritz-Carlton Laguna Beach (CA) into the “most outstanding property in a very competitive atmosphere.” The Ritz-Carlton, which has been open for some years, is located in an area in Southern California that has seen some new players enter its upper upscale segment, including the posh St. Regis Monarch Beach, which debuted last year, and a yet-to-be-opened resort which Marriott International is building in Treasure Island.
