HOUSTON The Red Lion Hotel here was sold to a New York group that plans to spend millions to transform the property into an “eclectic, unique and hip” hotel. The affiliation with the Red Lion chain will be dropped in April when the hotel closes for renovations, and come Fall 2001 the property will reopen with a new name.
Amerimar Enterprises, a Philadelphia-based real estate group, is spending $11 million to renovate the lobby and the 312 guest rooms, which will include a modern look with white armchairs and black and white cowhide rugs. The hotel will also get a new restaurant on the ground level that will be similar to a contemporary bistro. (2/2/01)
