INTERNATIONAL REPORT—Across the globe, hotel brands are sprucing up their offerings to attract today’s modern traveler. Here’s a look at renovated properties:
Aloft Phoenix Airport
The 143-room Aloft Phoenix Airport has completed a multimillion-dollar renovation, encompassing the guestrooms, lobby, meeting spaces and XYZ Lounge.
“This remodel brings a new, vibrant and boutique style to our property, both in the public spaces and guest rooms,” said Denise Tempco, VP, Aloft. “It demonstrates our commitment to exceed our guests’ expectations with high-quality accommodations that have a touch of local flair. We have a new team that is anxious to show it off.”
The new design features vibrant blue and orange accents in the expanded lobby, and there’s gray, silver and gold in the guestrooms. The full scope of the interior renovation includes new carpet, upgraded exercise equipment, bedding, floor tile, carpets, curtains, paint, wall vinyl, artwork, new outdoor furniture and all new soft seating furniture.
Fairmont Chateau Whistler
The Fairmont Chateau Whistler’s Portobello Deli, which closed this fall for an extensive multimillion-dollar renovation, has reopened with a fresh design and a new elevated casual dining experience. Calgary-based Frank Architecture created the design, while B.L.T. Construction orchestrated the renovation.
Showcasing an animated open kitchen, Portobello has expanded its dinner offering under the direction of Executive Chef Isabel Chung to include open-flame rotisserie chicken, pork ribs and smoked brisket. New hardware in Chef Isabel’s kitchen includes a Rotisol rotisserie, an Alto-Shaam smoker, and two antique-styled Miwe Wenz 1919 Ovens shipped directly from Europe, according to the company.
Fairmont Royal Pavilion
The Fairmont Royal Pavilion in Barbados has put the finishing touches on a recent renovation. The multimillion-dollar project, led by design agency Richmond International, included a complete transformation of the hotel lobby and each of the 72 guestrooms and suites.
The London-based firm drew inspiration for its new design concept from the resort’s location directly on the beach on the Platinum Coast of Barbados.
Nestled on 11 acres in a tropical setting and a half-mile stretch of beachfront, the property has a newly enhanced lobby with distinctive enhancements, including a small bar attended by mixologists pouring locally inspired signature cocktails. The pink hues already featured throughout the lobby have been maintained, harkening back to the hotel’s original terracotta.
