SHARM EL-SHEIKH, EGYPT–In the aftermath of this winters political upheaval, hotels in Egyptian destinations like this resort report revenues are down an average 30% and more.
In the most extreme cases, hotels are reporting single digit occupancy levels. Travel experts attribute the sharp decline to tourists concerns of encountering continued political turmoil, a breakdown in the tourism infrastructure, and a shortage of other services and consumer goods.
In Sharm El-Sheikh, for example, global hotel brands include Hilton, Marriott, Four Seasons, and Hyatt.
