PORTLAND, OR The Portland City Council approved $100 million in bonds to complete the long-awaited expansion of the city s convention center. The project is being financed primarily by out-of-towners.

The deal, worked out during the past two years, also will bring money for renovations to the PGE Park, the Portland Center for the Performing Arts and expansion of Fareless Square. Groundbreaking for the convention center expansion will be on February 8, and the project is scheduled for completion in 2003. (1/29/01)
