PITTSBURGH— Mayor Tom Murphy is confident that two hotels will be built in 2003 near the new Lawrence Convention Center here, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The Mayor’s statement came during an address to the Downtown Partnership. Murphy said that he will push to start construction on a $120 million, 600-room hotel at Penn Avenue and 10th Street. The second hotel, he said, will be built by Oxford Development Co., who will soon begin the conversion of four existing buildings on Penn Avenue into a 200-room hotel. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette noted as well that the Lawrence Convention Center is set to open in March of 2003 and could help serve as a focal point for revitalizing the Downtown central core of Pittsburgh.
