ST. PETERSBURG Pinellas County here posted a gain in overnight visitors for an eighth consecutive year despite an economic slowdown and cold weather that turned tourism soft in the final two months of 2000. Overall, tourism in Pinellas County increased 3.5% to 4.7 million visitors last year, while the county s hotel occupancy rate increased to 74.8% and ADR rates rose $2.92 to $71.62. January 2001 figures have not yet been released, but it is estimated that the Super Bowl was responsible for 13% of all hotel business for the month. (2/15/01) SOURCE:St. Petersburg Times
