Pfeffer Group To Work With La Quinta On Brand’s International Expansion

NEW YORK— HOTEL BUSINESS® has learned exclusively that Eric Pfeffer and his new company, Pfeffer Group LLC, have formed an association with La Quinta, whereby he will assist with the brands international expansion. Pfeffer previously worked for Cendant, serving as the Hotel Divisions chairman/CEO. He resigned from that post last fall. In the first phase of the agreement between Pfeffer and La Quinta, Pfeffer will concentrate on looking for opportunities to expand the brand in Mexico, Central America and South America, said the executive during the NYU Investment Conference kickoff event June 2. “Im very excited about this relationship with La Quinta, not only because its my first customer, but Im impressed with La Quintas product and level of consistency,” said Pfeffer. “With the La Quinta name and reputation, Im certain we will grow South of the Border,” Pfeffer added. Alan Tallis, evp and chief development officer of La Quinta Corp. said that while it is too early to talk specifics about leads in the international focus areas, he noted, “we hope to be in position to have developments/franchising deals by the end of the year.” “Were very fortunate to have Eric and his contacts,” Tallis added. Pfeffer is confident that the brand will do well in the newly targeted expansion areas, particularly since La Quinta has the benefit of being a Spanish name. “Every South American country Ive been to and asked about La Quinta, the response was Yes, Im familiar with the name,” said Pfeffer. Tallis noted he is excited about the new agreement and feels strongly that Pfeffers experience and relationships will help La Quinta achieve its goals. “His [Pfeffer] reputation is well known and we are fortunate to work with him,” Tallis said. La Quinta is committed to expanding its brand both in and outside the U.S. Just recently La Quinta announced the opening of six new franchised properties representing 510 guestrooms in Texas, Missouri, Florida, Georgia and Michigan.
