SANTA YNEZ, CA— Perini Building Co. was awarded the design/build contract from the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians to build the $157 million Chumash Casino Consolidation Project, located on the Santa Ynez Reservation in Santa Barbara County. The project includes a three-story, 190,000-square-foot casino complex, and is designed for a variety of gaming operations, including 2,000 slot machines, table games and bingo. Perini Chairman Dick Rizzo said, “We are delighted to be part of this new project. We also look forward to joining Thalden Boyd Architects, a leader in Native American hotel and casino design, in providing design/build services for a casino and hotel. Due to our similar backgrounds, delivering a quality project on such an aggressive schedule should go very smoothly.” The complex also has a 300-seat buffet, deli and fine dining; a variety of different entertainment venues; and valet parking. Perini plans to deliver this portion of the project in November 2003. The project includes moving the existing casino operations into the new facility, although the current casino will remain open throughout construction. Perini is building a new temporary entrance so patrons can completely avoid construction activities. A 105-room hotel is included in this phase. The hotel will have high-end suites as well as several mini-suites and a resort-style swimming pool. This is scheduled to be completed by December 2004. Last June, Perini delivered two other Native American casinos and resorts, Pechanga Entertainment located in Southern California and Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.
