MIAMI BEACH Donahue Peebles has officially become the first African American to develop and own a convention-center hotel in America. Peebles who will host the 5th Annual Multicultural Tourism/Hotel Ownership Summit & Trade Show here from September 5-8, 2001 survived the final vote by the Broward County Commission to build the city s newest convention center hotel.
Wyndham International joined Peebles in a joint venture partnership and management venture for the convention-center hotel, and the Broward County Hotel & Motel Association, who previously opposed Peebles, spoke up at the commission meeting supporting his current deal. (4/5/01)
