NEW YORK- Thomson Multimedia has exclusively partnered with Airwave U.S. to bring pay TV services to small to mid-range hotel properties.
Called VideoJock, the system bundles 10 pay TV channels, including all the Showtime and Starz channels, and allows small hotels, which otherwise wouldnt generate much additional room revenue, to offer this package to their customers.
Interested hotels sign up for a monthly content fee, and lease or buy a pre-assembled RCA DIRECTV headend system with plug-in satellite dish and antenna. They then can sell it at their discretion, keeping all the profits, said Thomson GM/Commercial Business Operations Rodger Keeney. The average price to customers is $5 to $7.
“We believe that properties with 150 rooms or less will find [it]to be a very exciting guest amenity,” added Thomsons Steve Atkinson, vp/strategic business operations. (11/12/00)
