NEW YORK— Orient-Express Hotels announced plans for a US$3.5 million refurbishment program at Lilianfels Blue Mountains, an 85-room resort located in Australia’s Blue Mountains National Park. Located near the Three Sisters landmark about 90 minutes from Sydney, the resort features English-style gardens, two restaurants, meeting space, and a variety of facilities for health and beauty treatments. The four-month renovation project will begin in November. All guestrooms and suites will be redecorated with a Victorian theme but with contemporary touches. Rooms currently have marble bathrooms with separate bath and shower, and views of the gardens or mountains and valleys. During the renovation the health club will be transformed into a “mountain retreat” spa with seven treatment rooms with nail salons, saunas, steam rooms and four Geisha tubs. Aerobics, yoga, tai chi, stretching, meditation and Pilates will also be offered in a new fitness studio. Additionally, the existing cottage suite will be converted to a gymnasium accessed through the spa lobby. The heated indoor pool will be deepened and an outdoor pool will be added. Other plans call for enclosing the veranda of Darley’s restaurant, expanding the lounge and bar area, and refitting Lilians restaurant. Lilianfels is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and has been owned and operated by Orient-Express Hotels since December 1999.
