NEW YORK— HVS International’s Executive Search Division honored Choice Hotels International’s President/CEO Charles “Chuck” Ledsinger Jr. June 3, as the industry’s top performing CEO for 2001 based on his ability to deliver the best value to shareholders. Ledsinger, who’s been with the chain four years this year, met criteria developed by Division President Keith Kefgen that measures CEO compensation against such indicators as market capitalization, stock appreciation and increases in EBITDA to determine the leading candidate. In addition, the division presented a leadership award to the board of directors of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, terming it the “most effective” in leading a public lodging company. Again using a model developed by Kefgen, the award is based on a board’s committee structure, make-up, independence, commitment to pay-for-performance and (addressing) conflicts of interest. The award was accepted by Jonathan Browning, svp/design for Starwood. — Stefani C. O’Connor
