TUCSON, AZ— Hotels in the Tucson area reported a fall-off in demand in 2001 with luxury hotels and resorts posting the biggest declines, according to a report in the Arizona Daily Star. Occupancy was down 6.6% at luxury properties last year, according to report. Currently, some lodging property occupancies are off by as much as 25% so far this year compared to the same period in 2001. The drop in occupancy levels were attributed to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and cutbacks in business travel resulting from the recession.
