NEW YORK NYC & Co., the hip remake of the citys Convention and Visitors Bureau, held a series of focus groups across the nation and determined that the “I love NY” campaign, a state-sponsored slogan that dates back to 1977, is just that dated.
Focus groups suggested that the slogan brings back memories of past years when Times Square held a reputation for danger. However, the I love NY slogan is ranked No. 24 out of 100 of the most recognized corporate logos, which is a tough position to willingly give up.
Still NYC & Co. is on the active lookout for advertising sponsors and above all, a new slogan. It is considering a few new ideas such as NYC, youve got to experience it and of course, Only in NY. (2/21/01)
