NEW YORK— With help from Mr. Met, a Rockette, Geoffrey the Giraffe, an NYPD officer and other tourism icons, NYC & Company today is launching a massive postcard-writing campaign inviting the nation to come visit the Big Apple. As part of National Tourism Week (May 4th to 12th), an array of New York cultural and tourism personalities joined federal, state and city tourism leaders to give the citys struggling tourism industry a boost by beginning to write 100,000 postcards inviting America back to the city. U.S. Commerce Department Assistant Secretary Linda Conlin also is slated to deliver a “State of the Travel Industry Address,” emphasizing the need for Americans to begin traveling again. A report on New Yorks tourism recovery efforts is expected from NYC & Company Chairman Tim Zagat and President/CEO Cristyne Nicholas, and Chairman of Loews Corp. and the Travel Business Roundtable Jonathan Tisch.
