NEW YORK— New York City Office of Emergency Management Commissioner Richard Sheirer will join tourism chief Cristyne L. Nicholas and representatives from the Police Department (NYPD), the Department of Transportation (NYCDOT), Manhattan Community Board 1, the Downtown Alliance and South Street Seaport, on January 8 at 4:45 pm to launch new procedures for granting public access to the Ground Zero viewing stand opened recently at the corner of Broadway and Fulton Street in Manhattan. Starting tomorrow, visitors to Ground Zero will obtain free, color-coded tickets at the South Street Seaport Museum ticket booth valid for half-hour viewing periods at the viewing stand. The ticketing procedure will allow visitors wishing to pay their respects at Ground Zero a chance to do so without having to stand on line for hours during the cold winter months, while making it easier and safer for the city to continue cleanup operations at the site. The ticket service will also help downtown businesses by encouraging visitors waiting for their turn on the viewing platform to patronize downtown museums, shops and restaurants.
