VERNON, NJ State officials here are urging postponement of a $500 million housing and resort development in the Mountain Creek ski area, questioning whether it will violate environmentally restricted lands. Vancouver, Canada-based Intrawest Corp. is the resort developer.

Opponents say the project would set a precedent for major developments all across the Highlands, which cut through Bergen, Passaic, Sussex, Morris and Warren counties and serve as the source of drinking water for much of North Jersey. (12/18/00)
