NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY— Niagara University’s College of Hospitality and Tourism Management has received the International Society of Travel and Tourism Educators (ISTTE) Institutional Achievement Award. The award, given once every two years by the ISTTE, recognizes and honors an institution that has made significant long-term contributions to the field of travel and tourism education in the U.S. or abroad. The ISTTE is an international organization of over 300 educators in travel, tourism, and related fields representing educational institutions ranging from professional schools and high schools to four-year colleges and graduate-degree granting institutions In 1968, Niagara University began offering the world’s first bachelor’s degree in tourism with the opening of the university’s Institute of Transportation, Travel and Tourism. Today, NU’s College of Hospitality and Tourism Management is one of only four such programs in the U.S. that have achieved college status. Niagara’s was the seventh hospitality and tourism program to be accredited in the country. A national leader in study-abroad opportunities, 40 percent of the college’s students study at its partner schools in Engelberg, Switzerland, and Strasbourg, France.
