ALBANY— The Pataki administration and the Seneca Indian Nation have struck a deal to build two Las Vegas-style casinos in Buffalo and Niagara Falls, and a possible third elsewhere in western New York, the governor said on June 20, according to the New York Times . The casino plan requires legislative approval under a recent state court ruling, however, there has not been much opposition voiced from the Senate. The deal would give the Seneca Nation control of the Niagara Falls Convention Center, a 153,000-square- foot building, for $1 a year. The two proposed casinos would provide a boost to an economically depressed area, and create competition for the first time for the two privately operated casinos on the Canadian side of the Niagara River.
