FARMINGVILLE, NY— A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the new 161-room Hampton Inn Long Island/Brookhaven here yesterday. The $20 million property is owned by Long Island Hotels LLC. The hotel was built via modular construction by Deluxe Building Systems. A total of 101 modules were shipped from the companys plant in Berwick, PA, with each unit consisting of two guestrooms and a section of hallway. The lobby and public areas were built on-site. The modular construction has advantages over traditional construction methods, according to Lamont Brown, director of project development for Deluxe Building Systems. “There is the timing— we can do it quicker this way— and we can control the quality because each module is built in our plant in controlled surroundings,” Brown said. John Tsunis, partner, Long Island Hotels, estimated his company saved several months in construction time with the modular units. “It took 10 to 11 months to go up as opposed to the usual 14 or 15 months for this type of project,” Tsunis said. And the consumer cant tell the difference, he noted. “Its a six-story structure— concrete and steel— and very solid.” Tsunis said the new property will have a mix of customers. “Well have a corporate clientele during the week and a social, leisure business on the weekends,” he said. “Its a new generation Hampton Inn with an indoor swimming pool, indoor health club and, in the lobby, a flatscreen television and fireplace,” Tsunis added. “Its not your typical Hampton Inn.”
