FLORENCE, ITALY— Villa San Michele, part of the European Collection of Orient-Express Hotels, has created eight new junior suites within the gardens of the hotel, which was originally converted from a former 15th century Franciscan monastery overlooking Florence. The new rooms were fashioned out of the hillside upon which the hotel sits and include private terraces overlooking Florence. An additional suite, situated in the front of the hotel, was once a monks greenhouse where herbs, olive and lemon trees grew. The suite interiors were created by Parisian interior designer, Jean Michel Ley, in a style reflecting Florentine culture. Ley is also responsible for the design of guestrooms in several other Orient-Express Hotels including the Hotel Splendido in Portofino and the Hotel Cipriani in Venice. Each of the large suites feature walnut furnishings, woven fabrics, wrought-iron light fittings and are equipped with the latest technology including DVD players and Internet connections.
