BOSTON The new Boston hotel that will be managed by Destination Hotels and Resorts will be called Nine Zero, HOTEL BUSINESS. has learned.

The property, which is being built from the ground up and is set to open next Spring, was officially named last week in a ceremony attended by Boston Mayor Tom Menino and Paul Palandijian, president, Intercontinental Real Estate, which is the owner/developer of Nine Zero. Also on hand were Michael George, svp of operations, Destinations Hotels & Resorts and Joe Campanelli, president/COO of Sovereign Bank, which is the construction partner in the hotel.

Palandijian said Intercontinental selected the name Nine Zero not only because the 190-room hotel which is being designed by Cambridge, MA-based Tsoi/Kobus & Associates will sit at 90 Tremont Street, but because it will have a sleek, elegant image.

The boutique-style hotel will be designed as a four-star, full-service luxury property. The 19-story property will have only 12 rooms per floor and is expected to attract 60% business travelers and 25% leisure travelers (both domestic and international), and 15% group travel. Target markets include key feeder cities from the Northeast region, national and international businesses and leisure travelers age 25-60.

Technological amenities will include multiple phone lines, fax, copier, high-speed Internet, CD and VCR with bathroom stereo and TV speakers.

New York-based Wilson & Associates is creating the interiors of the public spaces and guestrooms. The lobby is being designed with marble floors, deep woods and rich blues and reds in the furniture treatment to contrast with sheer window coverings. A gourmet restaurant will sit on the second floor, seating 72.

Janne Hurley Clare has been named GM of the hotel. Her background includes 20 years with Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Most recently she was GM for the Westin South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, CA.

Destination Hotels & Resorts ranked number six in gross annual revenue in the HOTEL BUSINESS. listing of Top 100 Management Companies for 2000. (5/15/01) Ruthanne Terrero
