LAS VEGAS— Curtis Nelson, president/CEO of Carlson Hospitality Worldwide, took the podium Feb. 19 at the MGM Grand here to resume his keynote speech for the attendees of this year’s annual business conference. Nelson’s keynote presentation was cut short Monday during the opening reception, as previously reported by HOTEL BUSINESS®, due to a bout of hypoglycemia— Nelson is recovering from a liver transplant. A statement released by Carlson Hospitality today reported: “Curtis Nelson recovered from a bout of hypoglycemia, which interrupted an address at the company’s annual conference yesterday. Nelson, who underwent a liver transplant early in 2001, was found to have very low blood sugar, which caused the episode. A rigorous schedule and the fast pace of the conference aggravated the condition,” the release said. “Nelson recovered shortly after leaving the stage and the audience gave Nelson a standing ovation in support of his message.” He indeed completed his speech this morning. Upon taking the stage, he quoted Thomas Edison: “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up,” he said. “The most certain way to succeed is to try one more time, so here we go.” He thanked everyone for their support, and continued with his business plans for the company for the coming months, which center on customer loyalty, service and building strong relationships.
