NEW YORK HOTEL BUSINESS. has learned Marriott Vacation Club International (MVCI) will open its first vacation ownership resort in Egypt in February 2002. The 104-unit Sharm Beach Villas will be located on the Om el-Seid Bay shoreline near Sharm el-Sheikh, and adjacent to the 168-room Renaissance Golden View Hotel, which is slated to open later this year.

Commenting on the foray, MVCI president Stephen Weisz, said the project is not only a first for them in the Middle East but the first time a MVCI resort is bordering a Renaissance hotel.

“We now have 12 resorts in a mixed-use environment offering our owners the benefit of amenities from both our resort and the full-service property,” he added.

MVCI currently has 51 resorts in 29 destinations and more than 185,000 vacation owners.

The resort will offer one- and two-bedroom villas ranging from 833 to 1,250 square feet, with prices ranging from $10,900 to $14,900 per week of ownership. Sales begin August 2001.

The villas and the Renaissance hotel will have some synergies with amenities, including: health club and spa, outdoor pool, plus two children s pools, children s activity center, three restaurants, lounge and pool grill, dive center, concierge desk, valet service, shopping, a business center and the signature The MarketPlace convenience store.
