Multiple Sources Work Best To Raise $

LOS ANGELES The Capital Markets Outlook For The Lodging Industry presented a partly cloudy forecast to those attending this year s UCLA Hotel Industry Investment Conference here.

Led by Secured Capital Corp. s Bernard Siegel and tapping the insight of Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown s Jacques Brand, Credit Suisse First Boston s Shereen Jones, UBS Warburg s Scott Butera, Jon Kline of Merrill Lynch, and Bear Stearns Lonny Henry, the session was marked by generally solid expectations for the current year albeit tempered by several economic and political concerns.

One consensus reached by the panel of professionals was that those shopping for money (for their lodging/hospitality projects) should keep in mind that they need to gather their funding eggs from more than one basket in today s marketplace. As such, sources of capital to be tapped these days include local and regional banks, institutional investors, and even the CMBS markets. (1/18/01)
