GULFPORT, MS— According to the Sun Herald of Biloxi, work will begin next month on Gateway Plaza, a 7.5-acre site earmarked for a hotel/office complex. Once completed, Gateway Plaza will include two professional office buildings, an 80-room Ramada hotel and a freestanding restaurant or pharmacy. A shortage of new office space led to the first section of Gateway Plaza. Construction on a two-story, 32,424-square-foot office building, which will cost $2.75 million, is scheduled to begin in August. Next year, construction on the $3.6 million Ramada will begin, with a summer 2003 opening anticipated. The hotel will feature two meeting rooms, accommodating 60 people each.
