NEW YORK Millennium Hotels and Resorts, a division of London-based Millennium & Copthorne Hotels plc, has devised an upscale-property response to recession-ravaged travelers opting to save money on lodging accommodations: give the guest even more value for the money.
As Millennium & Copthorne Chairman Kwek Leng Beng told HOTEL BUSINESS. at an exclusive meeting at the Millennium Broadway here, “In a soft economy, guests are looking for the five-star hotel experience without paying the usual five-star hotel price.” As such, he explained that Millennium Hotels, for example, have been positioned to deliver “[at least]a four-star deluxe experience at a price [lesser-scale hotels] might be hard-pressed to match.”
Accordingly, Kwek pointed out upscale-accommodation-seeking guests are already able to take advantage of this “more-for-less” opportunity at more than two dozen gateway-city locations worldwide, with about half of those in primary cities in this country and more to come. (4/17/01) Michael Billig
