LONDON— A consortium of Saudi businessmen is creating a US$267 million mixed-use Maryland Tourist and Recreation Resort, northeast of the Saudi capital Riyadh, which will include five hotels and will have capacity for 500,000 visitors. The project is being heralded as the biggest tourist and recreation project in the Middle East region. Meanwhile, work is in progress on the construction of the 440-room Conference Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, which, when it is completed in 2004, will boast some of the largest conference facilities in the region. German luxury hotel operator Kempinski Hotels & Resorts was signed up last August to manage the hotel. SOURCE: HVS International
