Microtels Set to Build in Lee County

Fort Myers Beach, FL–Microtel Inns & Suites will be introducing its brand to Lee County this year. The Atlanta based franchisor has signed franchisees for two 83-room hotels. One will be adjacent to the Hampton Inn near Summerlin Road and San Carlos Boulevard, on the mainland near Fort Myers Beach. Ed David of New Orleans holds that franchise. “They hope to break ground sometime this year,” said Jonathan Benjamin, vice president of franchise sales and development for U.S.Franchise. The other hotel will be near Southwest Florida International Airport. Two sites are under consideration: Benjamin declined to say more, other than to project a 2006 ground-breaking. Microtel currently has 11 hotels in Florida, with 11 more in various stages of development. Besides plans for a Port Charlotte inn, “I also have applications pending in Sarasota and Lehigh Acres,” Benjamin told the local newspaper.
