MIAMI The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) and industry partners welcomed the first-ever 10 millionth annual overnight visitor – Barry Small, a Boston man in town celebrating his 25th anniversary with his wife. The couple was greeted at the Miami International Airport by the CVBs president/CEO, William Talbert who awarded them their prizes.
The GMCVB calculated the 10 millionth annual overnight visitor based on 1999 data and rate of growth in 2000. The GMCVB took the average number of visitors arriving daily and multiplied it by number of days in the year. By dividing the daily arrival figure by 24 hours, the GMCVB estimated the specific time of day of arrival. Once the closest flight matching that time was determined, the exact passenger was selected randomly by seat number.
