MEXICO CITY Two firefighters and a paramedic were killed Tuesday in a fire in the 26-story, 357-room Hotel Calinda here. Local news broadcasts showed black smoke pouring from the hotel interior, while tourists climbed down an exterior ladder.
Two firefighters died when they were trapped inside while trying to help extinguish the blaze, and a Red Cross paramedic who tried to rescue them was also killed, said the city rescue squad chief Lazaro Manuel Martinez. (1/31/01)
