CANCUN, MEXICO— The Meliá Cancun hotel has been selected by the hotel company Sol Meliá to join its upscale Gran Meliá brand. The rebranding of the hotel comes following completion of a three-year, $43 million renovation. The refurbishment included all of the hotel’s guestrooms and public areas as well as the addition of new facilities including a “Royal Service” Executive Floor. This new service is now available in 132 rooms in one of the towers that dominate the hotel design. Amenities on this floor include a pillow menu, butler service, a large private lounge with free hot and cold canapé service and a private reception area. With the addition of the new facilities, the Gran Meliá Cancun now has 700 rooms, each with its own private terrace and views of the Nichupté Lagoon or the Caribbean. The hotel offers two swimming pools, a nine-hole golf course, tennis and paddle courts, a gym, a health and beauty center and five restaurants. Additionally, the hotel now has meeting space to accommodate up to 1,200 guests with the flexibility to be set up to create separate large and independent meeting rooms.
