DETROIT Marriott International today outlined the company s five-point strategy to attract and retain employees.
In a speech delivered to several hundred executives at the Detroit Economic Club, J.W. Marriott, Jr., chairman/CEO of the company revealed that his company invests $100 million per year on training alone. Marriott also outlined the company s five-point strategy during the speech:

2 Remember that money isn t the only attracting component in the compensation package
3 Create a caring workplace
4 Promote from within
5 Build your brand
Marriott maintains a workforce of approximately 150,000 associates in 59 countries and expects to open at least 400 additional hotels over the next two to three years, creating more than 20,000 new jobs. (10/2/00)
