NEW YORK At an eTravelWorld session entitled the “Travel Supplier s Super Panel What Do Suppliers Really Want?” Bruce Wolff, svp/distribution, sales & marketing for Marriott International said that Marriott has created a new position to control unsold room inventory via Internet distribution channels.
The person who takes on the new role will be charged with the responsibility of creating and maintaining relationships with third-party on-line distribution websites like Expedia and Travelocity through which Marriott hotels will sell left over rooms inventory to maximize profits.
Wolff told HOTEL BUSINESS. that the new employee is set to start soon and she will be “advocating all of the intermediaries products to our properties and explaining the benefits of playing and how to play.”
Furthermore, Wolff said that Marriott has not chosen any one specific on-line distribution website with which it intends to work, but rather the new executive will be charged with examining all on-line channels and joining brands/hotels with the correct on-line distributor. (4/3/01) Diana Rodriguez
